I love when I get to shoot a couple newlyweds right after their big day – they are still smiling from ear to ear, the only difference being that I have all the time in the world to just focus on the romantic portraiture. On the wedding day, there is the bridal party, guests, and the actual schedule to adhere to.
I love all aspects of shooting the wedding, but at the end of the day, it’s about a wonderful connection between two people, and I love being able to provide creative imagery to highlight this relationship.
It wasn’t difficult getting creative with Nicole and Steve – they were up for anything and even had some suggestions of their own. They met on an intense bike ride in the rain (these guys are so west coast) and their relationship quickly took off. Nicole works for shaw as a talented television show host in the Whistler area (check out her television section – she is just too cute!), and comes from a family of creatives. Her mom is a writer and I wish I could bring her on every shoot with me! She was really into the photography, and it was like having an encouraging, helpful live audience: “just look into each others eyes and remember your vows” – I’ll have to steal that one!
I’ve been so blessed to have been able to work with so many amazing couples this year, and I will surely think of Nicole and Steve as one of the most considerate. Their wedding favors were homemade jars of raspberry jam, in which I was a recipient! I don’t normally get jam and I must admit that I get excited to have toast in the morning!
