Sara & Mark {Victoria Wedding}

October 1, 2010

Sara and Mark have shared quite the adventure from traveling to living in London for a few years. As such, the wedding guests made it from all corners of the globe! Each table was named a street that Sara and Mark lived on during their travels, I thought that was pretty cute and reflected the diversity of the attendants.  Both halves of this pair are so well rounded and laid back, with their gentle demeanor, you can tell that they go really well together and will be good parents. Sara works with google and gave me some awesome SEO pointers (when I make sense of it, I will hopefully show up somewhere!).

The girls got ready at Oswego Hotel, a very modern and chic venue. We started shooting the romantics on a non-traditional foot, in which case the bride and groom see eachother for photos before the ceremony. We orchestrated this “first look” as it’s commonly called down at beautiful Cadboro Bay. Mark had to keep his eyes averted as Sara approached from behind. I love those moments. Part of our shoot was on a big playground octopus (you’ve seen it before) and I was trying to ask a french family if they could kindly vacate for a few moments, when Sara walks up and speaks fluent french to them. Why was I not surprised that this super-google-expert-world-traveller would be bi-lingual as well. Not just a pretty face, Mark knows he is a lucky man!

The ceremony and reception took place at UVIC’s University Club. It was my first time shooting there and I was pleased to find a beautiful pond as a backsplash for the altar. There was also Finnerty Gardens nearby, which was great to make some enchanting imagery.

After dinner, Jesse and I set up a mini “photo booth” that Sara and Mark were keen on. They even brought white spray-painted props and it got pretty crazy near the end of the night! Their plan is to use the images for thank you cards, what a great idea!

Thanks for having us along, it was really fun!

For guests from the event, you can view/purchase photos at the online gallery. Please inquire with Mark and Sara for the password.

At the "first look"

At the altar. I call shots like these the "look of love".

Steve Nash was a guest at this wedding - I was stoked to get a photo with him (lower right)
