Welcome to the World Baby Oakland Sawyer! | Victoria BC Photographer

When Lindsay and Scott contacted me to do Baby Oakland’s Fresh 48 there was no way I was going to say no. After all – it isn’t often that I get to be the first person a baby gets to meet (other than the doctors, nurses, and his parents of course)!

For those of you who don’t know – a Fresh 48 is a lifestyle photography session that captures the first few moments of a newborn’s life with their families. The memories documented are truly precious and captured to be looked back upon and cherished forever; the sleepy eyes waking up to the world, teeny tiny baby fingers and toes, sneezes, and giggles….

Oakland’s first moments were truly moving to say the least. The highlight being Andi, Oakland’s older sister meeting her baby brother for the first time. The wonder, joy, and excitement expressed by the two siblings is so beautiful it takes my breath away every time.

Lindsay, Oakland’s Mother expressed, “There’s nothing that can prepare you for this moment. The moment your first baby meets your second and your heart grows 10 times in size. We have been telling her for months that her brother was growing inside me and excited to come out and meet her when the time was right. She would ask regularly to feel him move and proudly point at my belly and say “Oakley”. She loved him long before her was earth side and I’m not sure who was more excited for this introduction, me or her.

Pregnancy can feel never ending at times and can be stressful and anxiety filled when you start to think about all of the “what-ifs”. When I would feel myself getting worried I would think forward to the day our babies would meet for the first time and somehow that would bring me peace. It’s as if my heart knew that no matter what happened it would be worth the wait – it definitely was”.

I will write no more, as I think the photos speak for themselves. But I will end on four words that resonated with me during this session..

Joy. Love. Togetherness. Tenderness.
