Alida’s Wish of a Lifetime | Family photographer in Victoria
Alida is 94 years old. And she made a wish. Recently Wish of a Lifetime Canada decided to fulfill her dream. So they were looking for a family photographer in Victoria to capture her heartwarming story and I was happy to donate this shoot and photograph the emotional moments of this wonderful family.
Alida has always had a sincere and giving heart. She is consistently finding opportunities to bring joy to others and make them feel welcomed. From serving in her church to dedicating countless hours pouring into her family: she is mother of 6, grandmother of 23, and great-grandmother of 15. She dearly loves her family and seeks to enjoy as much time together with them as possible. Which is why she was longing to see the part of her family that she is separated from by great distance.
Nowadays Alida lives in Ontario, however she has an emotional tie to Victoria, BC. Alida and her husband moved here shortly after moving to Canada from Holland. The weather and beauty of Vancouver Island reminded them of Holland and they called Victoria their home for many years. Sure enough, they grew tremendously fond of the place and enjoyed building their life and family here.
It’s been about 5 years since she last visited Victoria, where she has a brother, 2 children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. That’s why Wish of a Lifetime sent her to Victoria for several days. And most of the family members gathered together to celebrate this wonderful occasion.
I wanted to capture the emotions of this touching family reunion. In order to give them a keepsake that would remind them of this meaningful event, I wanted to capture not only memorable images, but also the emotions. Because I love helping people to tell their stories.
