Since graduating from the Western Academy of Photography 6 years ago, I have been addicted to photography and business conventions, workshops, subscriptions and audiobooks. I know without a doubt that I owe any success I’ve had to these constant learning experiences.
I was at a convention last year when I realized that, although I was still learning at least one thing I could apply, I had reached a point where I knew that I had more to offer the industry.
I’ve been asked to speak at the Canada Photo Convention next year in Vancouver (stoked!). I’ve been preparing my lecture and my priority is on practical, write-this-down strategies and mind sets that have resonated with my business.
As I was developing this, The Western Academy of Photography went bankrupt last month, after 30 years in business.
Another former WAP student, talented cinematographer and good friend, Christopher Dowsett immediately proposed that we orchestrate a joint workshop.
Fuel Workshops was born. It is strategically focused on photography/business and video “fuel” to help both new and seasoned professionals alike.

The workshop was intentionally launched as a short notice sign up because we were inspired by the closing of the school. When it closed, the current students were left hanging with two months of unfulfilled tuition and we launched this right away to appeal to them while they were still in town.
Unfortunately, many of them had already moved back to Vancouver and many other photographers were already committed and are hoping for a future event with Fuel Workshops.
For this reason, we were not able to meet our minimum goal for this full weekend course. After listening to feedback, we are postponing the workshop date by one month to June.21st and 22nd. Further, we are hosting this workshop on August.16th and 17th in Calgary Alberta.
We are so excited for the attendants that have already registered, and we are offering them additional value for their patience.
This is a great thing in the long run because it will make the course even more kick ass with this addtional time to fine tune it and lend our ear to those interested.
